Greetings Winnetka Downtown Plan followers!
Thanks to everyone who participated in the Downtown Master Plan and Urban Design Quick Poll, we learned that improved places to stroll, gather and dine in Downtown were top priorities. In September 2017, the Village hired Teska Associates, the consultant that led the Downtown Master Plan, to work with the community to create a Streetscape and Signage Plan focused on the Green Bay Road Corridor and Elm Business District.
In addition to this website serving as a resource for the Downtown Master Plan, moving forward, all announcements and materials related to the Streetscape and Signage Plan will also be posted here. Should you want to unsubscribe from receiving updates about the Streetscape and Signage Plan, you can do so by clicking the link at the bottom of the email notification received. Alternatively, if you are viewing this on the project website’s news page, please enter your email in the footer to become a subscriber.
We hope you will all stay involved and continue sharing ideas on Winnetka’s Downtown Streetscape + Signage Plan as you so generously did for the Downtown Master Plan!

Winnetka’s land use and development regulations were the focus of Tuesday evening’s Steering Committee meeting. From zoning and design review to the overlay, special uses and beyond. Michael Blue with Teska opened the discussion by asking a series of questions relating to the primary topic areas:
• What alternatives to current zoning procedures might be considered?
• How does the intent and application of the overlay district reflect the vision statements?
• What elements are most important to consider as part of the design review process?
• What type of administrative approval for some building elements (signs, awnings, etc.) would be appropriate?
All members took part in a productive and thorough 2-hour conversation that resulted in the following findings and considerations for next steps / plan actions. Scroll down to see idea boards showcasing talking points in greater detail.
